  7.     Come November, when the spotlight hits TYNE DALY in Gypsy,
  8. it will end her 22-year absence from Broadway. The winner of
  9. four Emmys for Cagney and Lacey will "join a line of worthy
  10. colleagues" as Mama Rose, the stage mother memorably played by
  11. ETHEL MERMAN and ANGELA LANSBURY. The powerhouse predecessors
  12. didn't scare her away: "Great parts are rare, and this is a
  13. great part in a great play." And can she sing? Says she: "It's
  14. nice to surprise the public."
